Boztepe is the roughly 500-metre-high hill that rises immediately south of central Ordu, wrapping around the city like a natural balcony; today it is the province's undisputed icon and its single most photographed viewpoint. The hill's fame multiplied when the 2,350-metre gondola line, built by Italy's Leitner Ropeways at a cost of around six million dollars, was opened by Ordu Municipality on 9 June 2012.
Cable Car & History
Starting from the seaside lower station, the ride climbs through pine forest in about six to seven minutes using 28 cabins of eight passengers each across seven support towers, delivering visitors to the mountain station at 498 metres above sea level. With an hourly capacity of 1,800 people, the system is Ordu's busiest attraction, especially in summer.
Views & Facilities
From the summit terrace the immensity of the Black Sea, the red roofs and harbour of Ordu, and the green highlands behind all merge into a single sweeping panorama; bathed in gold at sunset, this view is a favourite of wedding photographers and drone operators alike. The hilltop offers modern cafes, traditional tea gardens, restaurants, souvenir shops, walking paths, a glass viewing terrace and a zip-line adventure park set among the pines.
Visiting & Access
Agencies build Boztepe into almost every Ordu itinerary for clear reasons: it is a natural high point and rest stop on Trabzon-based Eastern Black Sea circuits, easy to reach, suitable for every age group, and delivers a powerful 'view moment' in a short time. The average visit, including the round-trip cable car and a cafe break, lasts about ninety minutes to two hours. Guided tours usually pair it with a city walk taking in Yalı Mosque, the Paşaoğlu Mansion and the Taşbaşı quarter. Nearby lie Ulugöl, Çambaşı Plateau and the Perşembe peninsula.
Best Time
The best season is May to October, when clear warm days sharpen the panorama, while July and August mark the peak of domestic tour and caravan crowds. Early morning and sunset are the ideal hours for photography.
